Capital Project 2023

Thank you to our Oakfield-Alabama community members who voted on our $23,065,000 2023 Capital Improvements Project on Monday, December 11, 2023. Our residents approved this project with a final vote of 129 to 114 (53% approval).

The 2023 Capital Project is the culmination of 18 months of meetings between the District Facilities Committee, the Board of Education, and the District's architects, engineers, and municipal advisory consultants. The Facilities Committee aimed to review needs, prioritize them, and discuss 2019 Building Condition Survey findings, cost impacts, and possible project sizes. The Facilities Committee presented the findings and recommendations to the BOE for the proposed Capital Project/Referendum.

This project aims to update our MHS instructional spaces, including the science labs, technology, agriculture, art, FACS, and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). This project also addresses mechanical upgrades to the HVAC systems and repairs to the pool, including a new filtration system, autofill, and balance tanks and tiles repairs. Additional parking allows for a single entry point for District events, new concessions, and new outdoor accessible bathrooms. The 6-lane track has reached its end of life. The project includes a new 8-lane track surrounding a multi-purpose athletic field with high-grade artificial turf to accommodate regulation soccer, football, and other district activities. Shifting the field and track will open room for potential future expansion of the outdoor agriculture program facilities. The varsity baseball and softball infields would also receive artificial turf. With this December 2023 voter approval, we anticipate construction beginning in the spring/summer of 2025.

These much-needed proposed upgrades will significantly benefit our students and the OA community without impacting our taxpayers.
